Executive Director Honored with Award in Washington DC
We are proud to share that Cathy Bodine, PhD, Executive Director of the Coleman Institute, has been inducted into the 2024 Class of the AIMBE College of Fellows! The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) elected 152 new members of the AIMBE College of Fellows in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in medical and biological engineering. A formal induction ceremony was held during the AIMBE Annual Event in Arlington, Virginia on March 25, 2024. Dr. Bodine was inducted alongside her fellow Department of Bioengineering colleague, Keith Neeves, PhD.
Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer. Comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers, College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and medical research, practice, or education and for “pioneering new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.”
AIMBE Fellows are among the most distinguished medical and biological engineers including three Nobel Prize laureates. Additionally, 22 Fellows having received the Presidential Medal of Science and/or Technology and Innovation, and several have been inducted into the National Academies: 214 in the National Academy of Engineering, 117 in the National Academy of Medicine, and 48 in the National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Bodine was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows “for outstanding contributions to research and design of products used by persons with disabilities and mentorship in translational research.” Her induction into the AIMBE College of Fellows underscores her unwavering dedication to advancing accessibility and inclusivity through innovative engineering solutions. Her groundbreaking research and mentorship have earned her international acclaim, positioning her among the vanguard of medical and biological engineers. This prestigious induction acknowledges the profound impact of her work and places her in the esteemed company of pioneers and innovators.
