U.S. News & World Report: CU Denver Continues to Rank No. 1 for Social Mobility in Colorado

Social mobility has taken center stage in the 2030 Strategic Plan and is a key consideration when developing curriculum at CU Denver, where preparing a diverse workforce for the future is priority. CU Denver is committed to becoming the nation’s first equity-serving institution, joining new initiatives and supporting underrepresented communities in an effort to make education work for all.  

“For the second year in a row, CU Denver has been recognized as the number one institution in Colorado for social mobility,” said Chancellor Michelle Marks. “This is an incredible achievement, one that speaks to our commitment to serving all learners from all backgrounds at all stages of their lives and careers. At CU Denver, our students not only transform their lives through education, but they also help lift up entire communities.” 

U.S. News & World Report began ranking social mobility in 2019, measuring how well schools enrolled and graduated students receiving Pell Grants—federal financial aid granted to students coming from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually.   

In addition to being ranked No. 1 for social mobility in Colorado, CU Denver continues to be recognized as a top public school in the nation and moved up several spots on the National University list. For the first year, U.S. News & World Report identified CU Denver as a top-ranked school for veterans based on enrolling and providing aid to veterans and active-duty military students. This follows on the heels of receiving the Military Friendly Schools Gold Award designation earlier this year, which recognized schools doing the most to embrace military students and dedicate resources to ensuring veterans’ academic and future success.
