CU to host Fort Carson families at Saturday’s Buffs football game
DENVER – As a thanks for their service to the country, some 100 members of the Fort Carson community – service members and their families – will be guests of the University of Colorado for Saturday’s football game between the Buffs and the Cal Bears.
CU Athletic Director Rick George and the Athletic Department provided the tickets.
The effort was initiated last year by CU Regents James Geddes and Sue Sharkey, who met with Fort Carson leadership during a visit to the Army base southwest of Colorado Springs.
CU’s Office of Government Relations worked on details of the arrangement with Fort Carson. Government Relations and President Bruce Benson’s office also are covering the cost of lunch for the military families who attend a pregame event co-presented by the Athletic Department and CU-Boulder’s Office of Veteran Services. The lunch begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at the University Memorial Center; game kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
The Pac-12 contest at Folsom Field on the CU-Boulder campus will feature several observances of Veterans Day, including the annual POW-MIA Memorial Run concluding at the stadium immediately before the game; a coin toss by Lt. Col. Dave Rozelle, professor of military science and Army ROTC commander at CU-Boulder; and a swearing-in ceremony for new U.S. military recruits to take place at the end of the first quarter.
