The Board of Regents directed its Laws and Policies Committee to undertake a formal review of the nearly 100 active Regent Laws and Policies.  This review will include:

• Evaluating the existing structure;
• Simplifying and consolidating where appropriate;
• Updating, as needed, to conform to current institutional best practices and statutory requirements;
• Better aligning with Administrative Policy Statements (APSs) and campus policies;
• Rescinding any that are no longer needed or that are better addressed as APSs or campus policies;
• Performing gap analysis to determine if there are areas where the regents should enact additional Regent Laws and/or Policies; and
• Ensuring consistency with the Mission and Guiding Principles of University of Colorado.

Patrick O’Rourke, Vice President, University Counsel and Secretary of the Board will lead the review, in coordination with Leonard Dinegar, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff.  The review will be conducted with the principles of shared governance and will involve representatives from system administration, campus administration and representatives of shared governance and will take up to two years to complete.
