Injury and Violence Prevention Centers Receives $4.2M Grant from CDC

The Injury and Violence Prevention Center (IVPC) has received a $4.2M grant to establish an Injury Control Research Center at CU Anschutz over the next five years, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Mountain West region is more impacted by injury mortality compared to many other parts of the nation, with significant vulnerable populations including rural and frontier communities, higher proportions of Latino and American Indian people, veterans, and uninsured individuals.

"The CDC grant will significantly bolster our mission to reduce injuries and violence in the Mountain West region. Our growing team is dedicated to conducting innovative research, engaging with communities, and translating our findings into effective prevention strategies,” said Ashley Brooks-Russell, PhD, MPH, director of the IVPC.

The IVPC, established in 2021, is strategically positioned to lead injury prevention efforts in the Mountain West, a region with over 24 million people and significant unmet needs in injury prevention research and training.  The Center's integration with the Colorado School of Public Health and the CU School of Medicine enhances its capacity to drive impactful research and training initiatives. The IVPC is committed to advancing health equity, ethical research and practice, and the translation of research into actionable public health strategies. The Center's work is supported by strong collaborative relationships with practice partners, including the Firearm Injury Prevention Initiative at CU School of Medicine, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and numerous partnerships on campus.
