Elizabeth Brickley, PhD, MPhil, Named Director of Colorado School of Public Health’s Center for Global Health
January 7, 2025 (Aurora, CO)—Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) is excited to
announce Dr. Elizabeth Brickley, an esteemed global health leader and researcher, will become
the new head of the Center for Global Health, effective July 1, 2025.
Brickley will also serve as the inaugural chair holder of the Stephen Berman, MD Endowed Chair in Global Health, which was established in honor of the late Dr. Stephen Berman and will provide critical financial support for the Center in the years to come.
Brickley is currently a Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology & International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). She leads LSHTM’s Health Equity Action Lab, a diverse interdisciplinary team committed to conducting policy-relevant, community-engaged research to improve health equity worldwide. Brickley’s academic journey began at Williams College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She went on to earn two Master of Philosophy degrees, in geography and epidemiology, at the University of Cambridge. She later earned her doctorate in global public health through a joint degree program between the US National Institutes of Health and the University of Cambridge, with additional training in vaccinology through Dartmouth College.
Brickley expressed her excitement for this new role, stating, “I am honored to have the opportunity to join the Colorado School of Public Health and to work together with the broader Colorado medical community, as well as our esteemed international partners, in advancing the shared goal of improving health and achieving global health equity.” Dr. Brickley continues, “Addressing today’s most urgent global public health challenges requires strategic collaboration across borders and sectors, and I look forward to helping ensure that the Colorado School of Public Health continues to play a leading role on the international stage.”
Throughout her career, Brickley has focused on mitigating the health impacts of infectious and
environmental exposures during pregnancy and early life. Her work has informed public health interventions addressing polio, Zika, and leprosy, and she has contributed to World Health Organization (WHO) advisory committees on vaccine safety and global polio monitoring. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and is a passionate educator and advocate for
inclusive academic practices.
“With work spanning more than 30 countries and contributions to the WHO and other
international advisory efforts, the Center for Global Health is making a global impact while also
addressing health priorities here at home” said Dr. Cathy Bradley, dean of ColoradoSPH. She
continued, “We look forward to welcoming Dr. Brickley to Colorado and are eager to position
the Center as the leading hub for global health at CU Anschutz and the Rocky Mountain
Region.”
Both Dean Bradley and Dr. Brickley expressed their profound respect and gratitude for the
leadership of the former Director, Dr. Stephen Berman, and Interim Director, Dr. May Chu.
Their remarkable accomplishments have delivered excellence in global public health research,
education, and service.
Thanks to private charitable support, funding through the CU School of Medicine departments of
pediatrics and medicine, and support from the CU Anschutz Chancellor’s Office, the Center will
continue to improve health through interdisciplinary collaboration. And, under Brickley’s
leadership, the Center is poised to expand its impact on global health equity and innovation.
