NASA Administrator Tours CU Boulder

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Administrator Jim Bridenstine visited the CU Boulder campus and held a Q&A session with students. During his visit on August 23, Administrator Bridenstine met with CU President Mark Kennedy, Regent Linda Shoemaker, CU Boulder Chancellor Phil DiStefano, Executive Vice Chancellor and COO Kelly Fox, Provost Russ Moore, and Vice Chancellor for Research Terri Fiez. He also toured the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) and the new aerospace building at the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

CU Boulder Researchers Testify on Capitol Hill

CU Boulder researchers Dr. Twila Moon, Research Scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center's (NSIDC) Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, and Dr. Tad Pfeffer, Fellow at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR), testified on July 11th during a House Science, Space, and Technology hearing entitled Earth’s Thermometers: Glacial and Ice Sheet Melt in a Changing Climate. The hearing focused on the current state of science on glacier and ice sheet melt and impact on sea levels.  See the full hearing here.  

College of Engineering and Applied Science Ribbon Cutting for Aerospace Engineering Sciences Facility

The College of Engineering and Applied Science, located on the CU Boulder campus, held a ribbon cutting for the new aerospace engineering sciences facility grand opening. The building houses laboratory facilities, immersive educational classrooms, collaborative research spaces, and provides a campus focal point for aerospace. CU Regents Linda Shoemaker and Jack Kroll joined CU Boulder Chancellor DiStefano, College of Engineering and Applied Science Dean Bobby Braun, and staff from the offices of Senator Cory Gardner and Congressman Joe Neguse at this exciting event held on August 26.

Congressman Crow Meets with CU Cancer Center Director

Congressman Jason Crow met with Dr. Richard Schulick, Director of the CU Cancer Center at the University of Colorado School of Medicine to discuss progress being made in the efforts to find new cures and treatments for cancer. The August 30 meeting took place at the Congressman’s district office.

Colorado School for Public Health Dean Testifies in DC

Jonathan Samet, MD, MS; Dean and Professor at the Colorado School for Public Health, testified during a House Science, Space and Technology on the Environmental Protection Agency’s use of science on July 16. Dr. Samet is a noted international expert on the risk of inhaled pollutants, and has been leading efforts at CU Anschutz Medical Campus and CU Boulder to focus research on the health impacts of climate change. During his time in DC, Dr. Samet also met with staff from the offices of Congressman Perlmutter and Congressman Crow to share information about the Colorado School of Public Health.

Congressman Crow Attends Forum on the Impact of Climate Change on Public Health  

Congressman Jason Crow attended a forum to discuss the impact of climate change on public health, held on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. Constituents were able to ask questions about ways climate change impacts human health and the community. Congressman Crow was joined by Colorado School of Public Health Dean Jonathan Samet, MD, MS; Assistant Professor of Environment and Occupational Health Katherine (Katie) Dickinson, PhD; and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Department of Epidemiology James L. Crooks Ph.D., M.S, (Crooks is also an Associate Professor at the Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at National Jewish Health). Other experts included Deserai Crow, Associate Professor and Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Concentration at the CU Denver School of Public Affairs and Ean Thomas Tafoya, Colorado Climate Organizer for Green Latinos.

Congressional Staff Tours of Campus

The Office of Government Relations (OGR) hosted a number of congressional staff tours and meetings on campus during the August Recess.  These visits are critical in order to showcase the exciting work taking place across all four CU campuses with key staff members who help shape federal policy on behalf of the university.  A special ‘THANK YOU’ to the faculty, staff, and students from across the campuses who helped organize these visits and made them possible. 

Capital Development Committee visits CU Boulder

On September 4th, members of the Capital Development Committee toured the CU Boulder campus as part of their three-day facilities tour of north and northeast Colorado. They met with Chancellor Phil DiStefano, Executive Vice Chancellor and COO Kelly Fox, Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Sustainability David Kang and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities Operations and Services Brian Lindoerfer.
