Legislative Champion Awards
State Representatives KC Becker (D-Boulder), J. Paul Brown (R-Ignacio), Dan Pabon (D-Denver), and Yeulin Willett (R-Grand Junction) were each awarded the 2015 University of Colorado Legislative Champion’s Award for their support of CU and higher education. The group was honored at the September 12th CU football game.

CU-Boulder Athletics Director in Washington, DC 
CU Athletics Director, Rick George, made a visit to Capitol Hill to meet with Colorado’s congressional delegation to provide key updates on the new athletics facilities, including the construction of the Champions Center and indoor practice facility, as well as recent student-athlete academic successes. In addition, George highlighted the important partnership with Boulder Community Health as it relates to the new Sports Medicine and Performance Center, which is also housed at the Champions Center.

LASP Director Dan Baker Testifies on Vulnerabilities of America's Power Supply
Dr. Daniel Baker, Director of CU-Boulder’s Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP), testified before two subcommittees of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee. The Energy and Oversight subcommittees convened a joint hearing on “Examining Vulnerabilities of America’s Power Supply” on September 10 where Baker discussed extreme space weather events and the need to increase solar observation for quicker assessment and reaction. CU-Boulder in Logan County
CU-Boulder Chancellor Philip DiStefano along with special guests Brian Domitrovic, Visiting Scholar in Conservative Thought & Policy, and Ryan Chriest, CU-Boulder Alumni Association Executive Director, held a luncheon and program in Sterling, CO to share CU-Boulder news. Domitrovic also discussed his thoughts on the great recession and recovery. Senator Jerry Sonnenberg (R-Sterling) and CU Regent Sue Sharkey were also in attendance.

UCAR Briefing on Capitol Hill
CU-Boulder's Dr. Jennifer Kay (Professor, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences) and Dr. Julienne Stroeve (Senior Research Scientist, National Snow and Ice Data Center) were panelists at the AtmosNews - NCAR UCAR - Atmospheric & Earth System Science "State of the Arctic" brief in DC. They presented to a packed house in the Rayburn House Office Building.

CU Anschutz Medical Campus Faculty Members in Washington, DC
Dr. Ben Miller, MD, Director of the Eugene S. Farley, Jr. Health Policy Center, spoke at an Alliance for Health Reform hill briefing on the how to approach the integration of behavioral health into primary care.  A webcast of the program entitled, “High-Need, High Cost Patients: The Role of Behavioral Health” can be found here.

Dr. Robert Valuck, PhD, professor in the department of clinical pharmacy at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, testified before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on Colorado’s successful efforts to combat opioid abuse through the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse and Prevention.  Senator Michael Bennet, who serves on the committee, was able to welcome Dr. Valuck to the committee during opening remarks.   A webcast of the hearing can be found here.
