An important documentation of CU’s tax-exempt status is the State of Colorado Sales Tax Exemption Certificate. The OUC makes this document available on our Tax-Exempt Information webpage. The current certificate is dated June 14, 2022.
What if a vendor asks, Is the State certificate on your website still valid – or is there a more current certificate?
In this case, you can let the vendor know that:
- The university's tax-exempt certificate does not expire since we are tax-exempt as a government agency. Tax-exempt certificates that the State of Colorado issues to government entities do not have an expiration date.
- They can verify the validity of the tax-exempt certificate by visiting the State of Colorado Department of Revenue web page. Under the Sales Tax License section, follow the link to Verify a License or Certificate and then enter the University's tax exempt number 98025650000. This will show that CU has a current certificate with no expiration date.
