Gov. Polis Names New CU Regent
Republican Ken Montera is a third-generation Coloradan and CU alumnus
COLORADO SPRINGS – Governor Jared Polis on Monday appointed Republican Ken Montera to the vacant seat on the University of Colorado Board of Regents that represents Colorado’s 5th Congressional District. The seat became open when Regent Chance Hill announced in November that he would step down from the board for personal reasons.
“We are honored to welcome Regent Montera to the Board of Regents,” said Regent Jack Kroll, chair of the board. “We look forward to working with him in our mission to advance the University of Colorado and support its students, faculty, staff and community.”
A CU alumnus and native of Pueblo, Colorado, Montera graduated from the Leeds School of Business with a bachelor’s in marketing and international business in 1979. His distinguished career includes serving as executive vice president of retail operations for L Brands. Montera currently works as a retail and management consultant and serves as vice chair of the Colorado Springs Symphony Orchestra.
“I join my colleagues in welcoming Ken Montera, our newest regent from Congressional District 5,” said Regent Sue Sharkey, vice chair of the board. “The regents act as a voice for our constituents, and we are committed to making sure that CU meets the needs of every Coloradan across the state.”
“We are all grateful to Gov. Polis for working so quickly to fill this seat and for his support for the University of Colorado,” said President Todd Saliman. “We look forward to working with Regent Montera in the months and years to come.”
“I’m appreciative for the opportunity to give back to the university that set the course for my life,” said Regent Montera. “It is a real gift.”
Montera will serve on the board until the November 2022 election; he then has the option to run for the final two years on the current term.
