Project Description
The visual staging guides I create for our simulation team are visual tools that help structure the physical and virtual setup of a nursing simulation scenario. This project involves the use of Google Drawings, which allows me to incorporate visual images and descriptive instructions, indicating where people, equipment, and props should be placed, how the space should be organized, and what roles are involved at different stages of the simulation.
Project Efficiency
The greatest efficiency or innovation with my visual staging guides has been the enhanced learning amongst my colleagues and me, the consistency of each simulation setup, the time efficiency of the setup, the reduction in training time, and improved performance including students, instructors, and participants involved in the simulation scenario. There often can be additions or changes to the setup or scenario, so I remain consistent with updating and enhancing our staging guides. They can be used for the setup of our "hands-on" skills labs and our simulation events.
Project Inspiration
As a visual learner, I became inspired to create visual staging guides for our simulation team because there was so much confusion among everyone, causing prolonged hours of setup, frustration, and errors or miscommunications. Before, we were provided written instructions by the instructors of how they wanted the setup to be, but there was still so much confusion due to the lack of knowledge of medical equipment, supplies, medications, and how they wanted the room/space to be organized, what roles were involved if any, and the organization of it all.
What Makes You Happiest about this Project?
It makes me happy that so many members of my team and faculty praise my visual guides on their appearance and efficiency, and find them important and useful. They are constantly used because we need them for the undergraduate and graduate programs that we support. It also makes me happy that our team can communicate more efficiently, and set up in a more timely manner, and everyone gets the best learning experience, including the students who need a proper setup and equipment to ease the nerves that come along with the simulation experience.
