A flurry of activity last week: We've just posted six new submissions to the CU Innovation & Efficiency (CUI&E) Awards Program website. Check them out:

Sustainability in Simulation Operations (Anschutz Medical Campus)

  • Emily Bishop and Emma McClain (Experiential Learning Team/Healthcare Simulation) launched a new sustainability initiative  to avoid excessive medical waste. It includes the recycling, repackaging, and repurposing of eligible materials related to simulated scenarios, task training, and standardized testing. The team finds it extremely rewarding to save hundreds of pounds of plastic from being tossed into a landfill every year.

Visual Staging Guides in Healthcare Simulation (Anschutz Medical Campus)

  • Mariyah Jones (College of Nursing in Simulation) uses Google Drawings, creating visual tools and descriptive instructions to guide the physical and virtual setup of a nursing simulation scenario. Now, the team can communicate more efficiently and set up in a more timely manner.

Electronic Research Administration (eRA) Provisioning and Authorization Project (CU System)

  • Siegfried Appelt, Carlos Mennechey, Jordan Wight, Kevin P. Perron, Larissa Armand, Valerie Carricato, and Kelly Kim (University Information Services) developed a streamlined process for requesting access to InfoEd to support research and grants. Previously, this was a highly manual undertaking and a significant pain point for students, faculty, and affiliates.

Safety Permit Approval & Generation Using Power Automated (UCCS)

  • Matthew McGrath (Public Safety) automated the process for delivering, reviewing, and approving required permit requests for designated activities (special events, open flame, artificial smoke or haze, hot work, and simulated weapon permits). The innovation streamlines interaction between Public Safety, Event Services, Facility Services, and Performing Arts, and includes automatic email and permit generation, keeping all informed as to the status of permit requests.
