Sprintax Calculus to debut on Aug. 1
The International Tax Office will move to an online platform for exchanging information and documents with international employees, students and vendors on Aug. 1.
Online platform, Sprintax Calculus, will be used to gather immigration, tax residency and tax treaty eligibility information from new international employees and students, and to update existing employees’ information in preparation for the fall 2024 semester.
The new system will replace the International Tax Office’s required one-on-one appointments, streamlining onboarding. As a result, international employees and students can expect accurate taxation sooner, resulting in fewer retroactive payroll adjustments during the semester.
Additional advantages in using Sprintax Calculus include:
- Fewer scenarios where refunds are issued or additional tax deductions are needed to correct withholding discrepancies, due to improperly taxed pay or student stipends.
- Integration of international employee, student and nonresident alien tax data into Sprintax Returns, which will lessen stress and possibility of errors around tax filing time.
- Online access to tax Form 1042-S (with the recipient’s consent), which will reduce mailing delays and the need to reissue the form.
What to expect
International tax appointments ended on July 24 in preparation for the Sprintax Calculus rollout on Aug. 1.
New employees will receive an email notification from CUIntlTax-noreply@Sprintax.com asking them to complete their Sprintax profile within 14 days of their employment start date. Please encourage international employees to check their email – including spam folders – for this activation email.
Existing international employees will receive annual emails asking them to update their information and documentation online as needed.
Additional information can be found on Sprintax’s Calculus FAQ. CU specific information and user guides will be available on the International Tax website starting Aug. 1.
