Employees working in Aurora will see tax changes
University of Colorado employees working in Aurora will see a tax removed from their paychecks.
In November 2024, the Aurora City Council voted to repeal the Aurora Occupational Privilege Tax, which imposed a $2 monthly tax on employers and employees who work in Aurora. The repeal took effect Jan. 1, 2025, and will change payroll deductions for employees who work in Aurora, chiefly on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
Beginning January 2025, employees working in Aurora will no longer have the $2 Aurora local tax withheld from their paychecks.
Due to the city’s late notice of this change, some employees on a biweekly payroll schedule had this tax deducted from their Jan. 3 paychecks.
Employee Services has worked to make the necessary updates in the payroll system to ensure that January monthly payroll processes without this tax deducted, and employees on biweekly payroll who had a deduction taken on their Jan. 3 paychecks will see a refund included in their Jan. 31 checks.
